The Mighty Thor, the God of Thunder, always had an interest in the people of Midgard.  His father, Odin, the King of the Asgardian Gods, decides Thor could learn some humility and decides to send him to Earth without any memories of his godhood.  The body Odin places Thor into is that of partially disabled medical doctor Donald Blake.  Blake would later discover that by slamming his cane against the ground, he would become Thor.

Thor as he first appeared in Marvel Comics' Journey Into Mystery

Thor kept up his human disguise as Dr. Blake.  Blake would eventually fall in love with with his nurse, Jane Foster, who in return, also had feelings for Thor.  Blake would eventually reveal his alter ego to Jane and he would even take her to Asgard where she was temporarily granted immortal powers.  She would eventually lose those powers and her relationship with Thor would fizzle.  She would marry another doctor and have a child.

In his superhero career, Thor would battle against powerful foes like the Destroyer, the Wrecking Crew, and Surtur.  However, Thor would not have to search any further than his own family to find his greatest enemy.  His adopted brother, Loki, the God of Mischief, always envied Thor.  As his biological son, Odin had always prepared the throne of Asgard for Thor and Loki’s greatest desire was to rule over the Asgardians he felt treated him poorly.  What Loki didn’t count on was that one of his many plans to destroy Thor would lead to the greatest gathering of heroes on Earth – The Avengers.

The brotherly love of Thor and Loki

As a founding member of the Avengers, Thor would be a part of hundreds of grand adventures.  Thor bonded particularly strong with Iron Man (Tony Stark) and Captain America (Steve Rogers).  To him, Thor’s comrades were worthy to be in the company of the greatest warriors of all time in Valhalla.  And there was no one who could command the God of Thunder like Captain America.  Steve Rogers would be an inspiration to many, but his impression would be felt most by Thor who believed him to be the greatest of all warriors to have ever lived.

When Odin died, Thor reluctantly ascended to the role of Lord of Asgard.  In his new position, he saw humans at their worst.  He begins to involve himself more in the activities of the people of Earth.  In an attempt to save humanity, he reshapes the world in his image.  The results are devastating.  The Asgardians conquer the world and kill all opposing heroes – including his former Avenger allies.  The timeline is restored, undoing all the damage that Thor had wrought.  However, darker times were still ahead.

Loki would revive the demon Surtur.  Surtur would provide Loki’s army Uru hammers on the power level of Thor’s trusted weapon, Mjolnir.  Thus begins Ragnarök (the twilight of the Gods).  As the battle rages, Thor learns that Ragnarök is only part of a larger scheme of a cycle that would birth the gods, kill them, and return them to life.  After consulting the Fates, Thor is able to break the cycle.  With Asgard and all its inhabitants dead, Thor wanders off to rest in “the sleep of the Gods”.  Not knowing anything of Thor’s final battle, the Avengers believe Thor to be missing in action as their worst day, Scarlet Witch’s descent into complete madness, tears them apart.  Just before the Superhero Civil War, an object falls from the sky and lands in Oklahoma – Mjolnir.

A lone traveler from New York claims the hammer.  It is revealed that this traveler is none other than Dr. Donald Blake, who had been separated from Thor for many years.  As Blake begins to coax Thor back from his sleep, the Civil War would take a ghastly turn.  In the hopes to turn the tide of the war, Tony Stark, Hank Pym, and Reed Richards created a clone of Thor from DNA that Stark had claimed from the Thunder God.  The clone (later known as “Clor”) was not what the scientists has hoped.  During a large battle between the registered heroes and those opposing the government order, Clor kills Bill Foster (the fourth Goliath).  Appalled, the clone is deactivated.

Upon learning of Stark’s clone, the newly resurrected Thor is so angered that his former friend would do such a thing that would be used to kill another hero, he threatens Stark to stay away from him or he would personally end his life.  Meanwhile, Thor rebuilds Asgard just outside the town of Broxton, OK.  He seeks out his fellow Asgardian resting deep inside humans.

Loki, who came back into existence as a female before restoring his male identity, immediately resumed his hatred for Thor and began plotting against the Lord of Asgard.  After revealing to Balder that he, too, was a son of Odin (and a possible heir to the throne of Asgard), Loki brought a time displaced Bor, Thor’s grandfather, into the present.  Thor battles his grandfather and kills him.  For his crimes, Thor is banished from Asgard.

Balder, now Lord, moves the Asgardians from Oklahoma to Latveria.  Unknown to Balder, Loki and Dr. Doom struck a deal that would allow Doom to experiment on the Asgardians.  When Balder comes to confront Doom, he discovers Doom has turned those he experimented on into horrific cybernetic beings.  Thor arrives to battle Doom only to discover that Doom has built himself a suit of Destroyer armor.

Now, Thor, Balder, and the rest of the Asgardians now face yet another crisis.  After an attack on one of Asgard’s most powerful warriors, Volstagg, leaves tens of thousands dead in Chicago, Norman Osborn has come with a super-powered army (and secretly aided by Loki) to destroy Asgard.  Thor arrives in Asgard to face Osborn, only to be beaten by Osborn’s Avengers.  The Asgardian struggle continues in the pages of Siege…
